Grade 7, Thlokomelo Drop in Centre
There was a girl, Ndileka. Her friends were Sanele and Vee. Sanele was the beautiful girl in the class. But Vee and Sanele were also mean to boys. Ndileka was a poor girl and she was more interested in being herself than being popular. She was also a quiet girl. Sanele and Vee didn’t like to play with Ndileka because her nose was always in a book. Sanele and Vee were mean to boys who were not handsome enough or who were not popular. It was Valentine’s Day so they were in their home clothes except Ndileka because where she came from, they weren’t rich enough to buy nice clothes.
There was a boy called Zanemvla who was nice and handsome and the whole school liked him. So the whole school was waiting to receive messages and new contact from him on Valentine’s Day. Ndileka did not care about Valentine’s because she was busy with her school books and always focused on school.
Her friends were speaking to each other saying that Ndileka always had her nose in a book and did not hear anything. Zanemvla, the nice boy, went to Ndileka and gave her a phone for Valentine’s but Ndileka didn’t want to take it because she knew that one of her friends had feelings for Zanemvla. She didn’t care that they sat together and talked about school and asked each other what they were learning and what they would do after matric.
Her friends were not happy. When Ndileka finished school she met Zanemvla when she was walking home. He asked her how life was and how she was doing.
Ndileka was working so that she could pay for her university as her family didn’t have enough money. When she went to university, she met Zanemvla again and they started to date but she never got distracted from her school work or her job.
Sanele had a baby who didn’t have a father. She didn’t know who the father was. Sanele saw Zanemvla and Ndileka together and said she wanted to start a new life.
Zanemvla and Ndileka finished university. Zanemvla joined the police and Ndileka became a doctor. After they got married, Ndileka’s parents didn’t suffer like before and they were proud of her.
Zanemvla and Ndileka had children and a good life together. Their teachers were surprised to see them married and together. Ndileka got everything that she wanted when she was a young child. She is a kind and beautiful woman now, still quiet and now her nose is in her children’s books, three of them, two boys and a girl.
