With Music There Is Life

Grade 9, Malvern High School

In the streets of Soweto, lived an old man called Mr Bruno Browns. He was the best musician in the 1990s but retired because of old age. The streets of Soweto were full of children who always went to taverns and drank alcohol for the whole day. Mr Bruno didn’t blame them because they were not getting jobs and they found comfort in alcohol. In the early morning, Mr Bruno went to the tavern to get a bottle of beer, but he saw something “magical” on that day. All the young people there were singing and playing instruments as if they were professionals.

Bruno joined them and started playing the guitar. They all started singing Mr Bruno’s song, “This is Life”. He was shocked but very happy. They played music and sang the whole day. Mr Bruno started feeling the music again, so the next morning he gathered all his instruments and started teaching the youth of Soweto how to sing and play instruments. They made a music group called, The Musical Harmony. They worked day and night until they finally released a song called, “With Music There is Life”. Since Bruno had connections, they started getting gigs and they were recognised by the whole world.

They received Grammy awards for the best hit singles and the whole of Soweto was filled with music. Everyone stopped getting drunk and focused on music, thanks to Mr Bruno Browns.
