Grade 7, Yeoville Community School
It was a night filled with bad choices and tragic consequences. My friends and I were caught up in a moment of madness. We thought we were invincible, living life on the edge, but that night took a dark turn.
I am Jordan and this is the story of how my bad choices ended up ruining my future. I was raised to be a humble and obedient child; even though my parents did not have much, they tried their best to put a smile on my face. As I got older, I saw my schoolmates wearing the latest brands, and they would buy the newest phones.
I wanted to be like them so I started hanging around the wrong crowd. They pressured me into doing wrong things, and I did because they would buy me luxurious stuff. One night, one of my friends called Jabu, came to my house very late at night; he knocked on my window. He told me that they were just chilling in the car, drinking alcohol, and he came to ask me to join them.
I agreed and went with Jabu. I really wish I did not. When we got in the car, I saw my friend Dylan drinking alcohol and holding a gun on his right hand. I was shocked! Where did he get the gun? What was he doing with it? Before I could ask the questions, he threw the gun into my hands to light his cigarette.
Then Jabu gave me the bottle of beer. I only drank half of the bottle, and I was already drunk. My head was spinning, everything seemed blurry. I picked up the gun, aimed it at Jabu, then I shot him. My heart started beating like a drum, and all the neighbours came out.
I heard the police and ambulance siren wailing. I felt the cold metal of the hand cuffs on my wrist.
As the days turned into weeks, I found myself facing the unimaginable. The law accused me of being responsible of my friend’s death. I could not believe it! I was lost in a never- ending nightmare, desperately trying to wake up. The trial was like a whirlwind filled with emotions and pain, and my heart sank with every passing day! I knew deep down that my life wouldn’t be the same, and that was the end of me.
