Unexpected Love

Grade 10, Rena Le Lona Creative Centre for Children

A long time ago in 2015, there was this guy named Siyabonga Zipho. He was 28 years of age. Siyabonga had a great job, great home, great friends and great relatives. His life was almost perfect but what he didn’t have was his own family. So each and every weekend at night he would go to a club so that he could find a soulmate- someone he could love and take care of, but those nights at the club didn’t turn out as planned.

After months and months of trying to find that person, one morning he woke up, bathed, ate breakfast and headed to work. While he was driving to work, he accidentally bumped his car into a girl named Zinhle Shongwe. He stopped the car and went into a five second shock. After that he opened the car door and checked on Zinhle but he found out that she had fainted. Siyabonga took her to the hospital.

They arrived and Siyabonga called a doctor who took her away with the doctor’s team. Siyabonga was busy thinking a lot in the waiting room, wondering how Zinhle was doing. How hard had he bumped into her? What if she didn’t make it? He was stressed out. The doctor came and spoke to Siyabonga, telling him that Zinhle was in a coma and they didn’t know when she would wake up. Siyabonga asked the doctor if he could see Zinhle and the doctor said, “Yeah, anytime.” When Siyabonga went to the ICU he saw Zinhle lying on a bed and he felt more scared than ever.

Each and every day when he left work, he would go straight to the hospital to visit Zinhle. Days turned into weeks. He would read stories and poems to her and he would tell her what his day had been like. He was talking to himself.

After six months Zinhle finally woke up while Siyabonga was reading her a story and her first words were, “Who are you? Where am I?” Siyabonga introduced himself and told her what happened. They had a long conversation while laughing and having fun at the same time. She recovered and after two days he asked her out on a date. He finally got everything he ever wanted in his life and they lived happily ever after.
