Grade 9, Dirang Ka Kagiso
It was 25 May 2020. There was a guy called Sibonelo Mhlongo. He was 28 years old. Sibonelo had a permanent job, great home, friends and relatives. He lived well but didn’t have his own family. Every weekend after work he would go out and get some fresh air because he was very bored. Sibonelo was the son of the President. He told his father that he needed someone that he could love and take care of. His father told him that he must look for that person.
After weeks and weeks of trying to find that person, his father tried to help him. The President sent someone to the community to call all the girls of the village who were not married so that his son could choose one of them. A person went around and called all the girls. Unfortunately, they were not Sibonelo’s type, so he did not pick anyone amongst them, even though those girls were hoping to be chosen. His father was disappointed that his son did not choose anyone.
Months and months passed since Sibonelo had not chosen any of the girls. One morning he woke up, bathed, ate breakfast and headed to work. While he was driving, he saw a girl who was waiting for a light to turn green to walk. Sibonelo didn’t expect to see someone like her in the community. He stopped his car and picked up the girl whose name was Kgomotso Prinse. Sibonelo was lucky because he was so early for work, so he asked for the girl’s name, and she told him. He asked where she worked and where she lived. The girl didn’t mind answering him. She told him everything. Kgomotso then walked the rest of the way to work
Sibonelo arrived at work, called Kgomotso and asked if she was okay. When it was lunch time, they talked on the phone again. Then Sibonelo got back to work so that he would not be fired and Kgomotso did so, too. In the afternoon, Sibonelo tried to fetch Kgomotso from work, but he found that she had already left for home. He tried to text her to find out where she was. She didn’t reply. Sibonelo tried to call her, but her phone was off. That was the last he saw of Kgomotso for a while.
Afterwards, he thought that he would see Kgomotso again, but she had moved to Thembisa from Soweto. Sibonelo was so confused about the disappearance of Kgomotso.
He asked his father, “Mr President, please could you send someone to call all the girls again?”
Maybe he would find Kgomotso this way. The girls came to the house of the President again, but Sibonelo did not see Kgomotso there. He didn’t choose any of the girls.
After days and days, Kgomotso called Sibonelo and told him the story about why he hadn’t seen her around and at work. Sibonelo was so happy to hear Kgomotso’s voice again. Kgomotso told Sibonelo that she would give him money when she found a new job, but Sibonelo did not want that.
Kgomotso came back after two days. Sibonelo sent Kgomotso his address where he stayed with his father. Kgomotso came to visit Sibonelo with her sister and Sibonelo was happy. They got to know each other.
Sibonelo’s family loved Kgomotso because she was kind and happy. Sibonelo proposed to Kgomotso and she agreed to marry him. The family had to pay lobola and the couple were married.
