Poverty In South Africa

Grade 7, Motheo Foundation Primary

Poverty in South Africa is bad for many people. Many people are dying because of poverty, not having a shelter to live in, and enough food to fill their stomachs.

Many children leave their homes because they have problems. They become street kids, they go out in the bushes and bins looking for food and they even sleep there. Other children smoke drugs, inject themselves with substances which is bad for their health and it affects their lungs.

What the government must do is to help the street kids by giving them a shelter, food, and clothes to wear. We can all come together and help homeless children and adults by donating money so that they could all get essentials. It is not nice to see those street kids and homeless adults in the bushes, bins and dams trying to find food and water.

The government should really take this as a serious matter and put themselves in the shoes of those who are struggling to make ends meet. If they don’t help the street kids, they might get involved in bad things like stealing from people’s houses, robbing people, companies and shops. It is a shame to see those street kids fighting with other people for money and food.

They should be given shelter to live in with proper sanitation. We, the people of South Africa should make demands from our government and president so that we can all be helped, have food, water and shelter to live in.

Let’s come together and help people who need help. Many people should ask the government to provide food for the poor because they have died because of poverty in South Africa. Everyday each and every person should have a meal. All 9 million children in the world should have meals from the National School Nutritional Programme (NSNP). Social grants in South Africa reduces extreme poverty. Social grants and social protection improve people’s lives and reduce inequalities. People need access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation as part of their daily lives. Farmers grow crops, the government needs to make sure that the NSNP produces quality food. The aim is to examine food supply and ensure its healthy for consumption.

People mustn’t die because of poverty in South Africa. Socio-economic rights say government should make sure people have access to basic necessities like food.
